Project Summary
Located in the southern end of the White Sands Missile Range the building is a 77,300 square foot multi-storied structure that houses several large radio frequency shielded areas. This facility has the capacity to receive large armored vehicles and tanks and test the ability of the entire vehicle to handle large quantities of RF energy. It has both medium and low voltage work as well as demo of existing overhead lines and installing new medium voltage and communications duct banks.
The mechanical system has one 180 ton chiller, five air handling units, one 1900 MBH boiler, VAV boxes and hot water reheat, vehicular exhaust system, computer room units, and various fans and pumps.
This project involved complete electrical installation to include telecommunications, lightning protection, fire alarm, indoor and outdoor lighting systems, and power distributions to convert 480-volt 60 hertz power into 400 hertz power to generate large quantities of RF energy. There is one 2000 KVA transformer, one 2500 amp main distribution switchgear, one 2000 amp switchboard, one 1200 amp switchboard as well as one 1200 amp fire pump switch board one 600 amp motor control center, one 600 amp breaker and three 400 hertz panels. The building also has two manual transfer switches for future generators as well as having the capability to bring in portable generators and capacitors to different parts of the building for other uses.
